Celebration of Poetry
Join us for A Celebration of Poetry at the Centers for the Arts, in this series of events dedicated to poetry that features two nationally recognized poets - Dr. Catalina Monterrosa and Abbott Ikeler - reading selections from their published works. In the second hour, an open mic/discussion format offers attendees a chance to read a poem of their own or of other poets. Drinks and snacks will be available.

The evening begins at 7:00pm and is Free to attend. Call 495-8989 to register. Advanced reservations are suggested.

Get Fired Up!
Sip a glass of your favorite beverage, mingle with other adventurous people, and spend an evening creating a work of art! Bring a group of friends for an evening out or come alone and meet creative folks while you make your own Tree of Life, Mosaic Creation or Kiln Carving our of fiber paper during one of our new fused glass art experiences!

Let your inner artist shine through as you learn glass-cutting techniques, effective two-dimensional design, fusing practices (melting glass together in a kiln), slumping (shaping glass into molds) and creation of various effects. You will marvel at your own creations as you design and melt your ideas into form!

Great Bowls of Fire
Use brilliantly colored glazes, stamp, or slip trail designs on a beautiful hand thrown ceramic bowl of your choosing. Techniques will be explained and demonstrated while you enjoy some food and drink and then off you go! Let your creativity flow and create a unique functionable bowl. Fired bowls can be picked up the following week. Bring your friends and family for a great evening of art and fun!

It's Abstract! - YOUR creativity unleashed
Join us for a whole new experience! Explore the joy of your creativity. YOUR DESIGN, YOUR COLORS, this experience IS all about YOU! Sharing fun techniques and helpful hints, Brenda Belfield will show you how create your vision on the canvas. At the end of the night you will leave with a completely unique artwork.

MonoPRINTmania
Try your hand at this printmaking technique known for producing expressive and atmospheric qualities. Mosaics Tonight!
Here’s your chance to create a beautiful Mosaic artwork in one night! After enjoying a light dinner and wine, choose from beautiful images provided or create your own. Raku & You
Raku is a centuries old pottery glazing and firing process. The technique produces a lustrous, often metallic, finish. Raku & You is an evening devoted to this ancient process. Attendees choose from a number of bisque fired pots and are introduced to the history of Raku while applying glaze to their pot in their own unique design. While the outdoor kiln heats up to the correct temperature; attendees enjoy a picnic-style meal. Then the fun begins as red hot pottery is plunged into metal containers filled with combustible material. The containers are lidded and the pots rest for a few moments before being quickly cooled with water. The results are spectacular and everyone is invited back into the studio to view each piece. Everyone goes home with their very own raku masterpiece.

Raku 2 & You

Attendees choose from a number of bisque fired plates and are introduced to the history of Raku while glazing their plate in a simple or extravagant manner. Then the fun continues as the red hot pottery is plunged into metal containers filled with combustible material. The containers are lidded and the plates rest for a few moments before being quickly cooled with water. The results are spectacular and everyone is invited back into the studio to view each piece. Tuesday Art Talks
Enjoy this 1.5 hour multimedia journey into art history from the perspective of artists Ted de Clercq, Francesco Gillia and Berry van Boekel. They lead you on a journey to explore the events that create the art we appreciate today.

March 14 - "Music and Art: The relationship between Art and Popular Music" with Berry van Boekel
Join Berry for a look at a number of artists/musicians who have successfully bridged the disciplinary divide and a number of those who haven't.

April 11 - "The Pre-Raphaelites Revealed – The quintessential English art movement" with Ted de Clercq
Learn about the Pre-Raphaelites, their philosophy, the rise and collapse of their fame. This lecture will be supported by images and feature paintings by Waterhouse, Hunt, Leighton, Rossetti, Hughes, Burn-Jones, Moore and more. If you enjoy realism, lush colors and exotic settings with a hint of the mysterious, this is a lecture you will enjoy.
