Live at the Promenade!

 

The ‘Live at the Promenade’ performance series is held in our performance facility at the Promenade at Bonita Bay. This series offers various performance entertainments for all ages. We welcome musical, theatrical and comedic performers each year. All adult performances include complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres. To purchase your tickets you can call the Center for the Arts at (239) 495-8989 or stop by the Center for the Arts campus. Tickets can be purchased at the door if space is available.

 

The Promenade is located at the intersection of U.S. 41 and South Bay Drive, approximately 1.5 miles north of Bonita Beach Road. The performance space is located at the northwest corner of the Promenade, space #114.

Dan Miller

The Dan Miller Jazz Quintet

● Tickets are $15 members/$20 non-members

● New York City jazz trumpeter Dan Miller (formerly with Harry Connick Jr., Maynard Furguson, Woody Herman and Wynton Marsalis) brings a powerfully swinging jazz quintet to the Center for the Arts. Playing a program of classic jazz music from the 1950s and 1960s, this group features world class jazz organist Jeff Phillips, guitarist Dan Heck, tenor saxophonist Gerald Augustin and drummer Ron Hefner.

THEY improv

“Nacho Game Show Murder” with THEY improv

● THEY improv provides an evening of comedic murder mystery with the power of Nacho Cheese. The comedic actors interact with the audience as THEY prepare a game show for broadcast. The odd cast and crew have chips on their shoulders that lead to death. Our detective then walks the audience through finding the killer, who might get fried for his actions! This comedic farce is all in honor of National Day of the Nacho, which falls on October 21.

American Idle

● The Center for the Arts Youth Theater presents a play about Idle lives. Dr. Bruno Slacker has been trying to find his way to Easy Street all his young life. Having pursued one harebrained scheme after another to get rich quick, he’s finally hit on a scheme he’s sure will work! Convinced Americans work and worry too much, Bruno claims that if they’d only become idle, they’d live longer. To prove his point, he invites eight ambitious subjects to spend a week in “Idle House,” his version of “Real World.” The eight contestants’ mission is to learn to live without goals.

● Clarita Filgueiras' Flamenco Puro presents an evening of blazing, emotional intensity and the fiery passion of Flamenco. Experience the striking rhythms of Flamenco music and dance as this internationally acclaimed group takes to the stage. Clarita Filgueiras is Choreographer and Principle dancer in the Florida Grand Opera’s production of Carmen.

Naples Piano Quartet

“Around the World in 80 Minutes” with the Naples Piano Quartet

● Join the Naples Piano Quartet for a trip around the world through music. Travel with this gifted foursome comprised of piano, two violins and cello as you travel from Paris to Italy, India to Germany, enjoying the music of Bruch, Albinoni, Senneville and more.

● National recording artist Mark Barrios and his band perform Latin flavored smooth jazz which includes music from his CD “West Tampa Style.” Enjoy a blend of Funk, Blues, Soul and Latin music with this Tampa-based hit performer.

Weintraub Duo

“Music from Mozart to Broadway”

● The Weintraub Duo—Jason on oboe and English horn and Nancy on piano— are entertainers. They play music from classical to contemporary and educate the audience while they entertain.

Wendy Webb

“Wendy Webb Live in Bonita”

● Recently returned from appearances in New York, Paris and Havana, songwriter/singer Wendy Webb will be featuring songs from her newly released album “Moon On Havana” performed on grand piano and acoustic guitar. Her highly acclaimed work, though reminiscent of Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro, has a unique sound and originality all its own.

Bergonzi Quartet

● The Bergonzi String Quartet, named for the illustrious violin maker Carlo Bergonzi, celebrates its 11th anniversary as Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Miami. Recognized as one of Florida’s cultural gems, the Quartet has also held the same position with Festival Miami and a visiting quartet at the prestigious Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach. The Quartet regularly tours North America and has begun a series of recordings of the Mendelssohn chamber works for strings. Many will recognize violinist and concert master Glen Basham of the Naples Philharmonic.

● Flutes, flutes, flutes ... the soprano, alto, bass flutes and the piccolo will take you on a music journey. From Renaissance to contemporary, classical to Broadway, baroque flutes, fifes, penny whistles, recorders ... you’ll hear it all. Flute Cocktail will give you a whole new perspective on flutes and a couple of surprises as well.

Rebecca Richardson

“Jazz Forum” with Dan Heck & Rebecca Richardson

● An evening with Rebecca Richardson and Dan Heck is always wonderful. For this performance they are joined by other local jazz stars. The quintet includes Richardson, jazz vocalist and Heck, guitar/bassist performing jazz favorites, joined by some of Naples’ finest jazz musicians. A question and answer discussion about jazz and its structures will take place after intermission and the evening will conclude with a variety of standards.

● Enjoy an evening of song—pop, Broadway, patriotic and more. The Bay Singers are a 40-voice chorus comprised of women and men who are Bonita Bay residents. Join this group for a night of fun and see why they are a favorite of locals.

● Rick Compton and Betsy Bennett are taking a break from their national tour to perform an evening of fun and music. Known for their satirical takes on life, Compton and Bennett share their love for music and comedy. Their lively tunes and quirky humor will have you rolling in the aisles as they share their views on assisted living.

● Clarita Filgueiras presents an evening of blazing intensity, beautiful costumes and driving rhythms of Flamenco. Sit back and enjoy the lively, intense movements of the dance and the unique sounds of acoustical guitar as this favorite performer returns to Live! Internationally-acclaimed Clarita Filgueiras grew up with a Spanish grandmother who was a Flamenco singer and her Spanish father was an afficionado of the cante which she heard from a very early age. She is a top-level professional dancer, choreographer and teacher, recognized throughout the United States with over 25 years of teaching and performing experience.

● Pianist Naomi Niskala presents an evening of solo music. Naomi takes us from the classical repertoire of Beethoven to music influenced by the French Impressionists and to the wild and vibrant music of Argentinian Composer Ginastera. She has performed concerts in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. Her performances have been broadcast on BBC Radio and NPR’s Performance Today.

● Join professional dancers Erin Dunbar and Jessie Garcia for an elegant evening filled with dance accompanied by American standards. A variety of classic dances like Swing, Foxtrot and Waltz will take center stage throughout the evening. Dance lovers will be inspired by this beautiful evening of dance set to the tune of a live band (Billy Mac & Kelly). Come see why these two performers are favorites in Southwest Florida. Their beautiful choreography, and chemistry on the dance floor will leave the audience wanting more.

A working mother notices her daughter has picked up some not-so-great lessons from the fairy tales she’s been reading, so she sits her down and tells her new, more modern and empowering versions of some of the classics. In Mom’s new and improved variations, Little Red is an animal rights activist and vegetarian who saves the wolf from the Woodsman; Snow White unionizes the dwarves and overthrows her beauty pageant loving stepmother along with her assistant, Mir’ah; and Cinderella shares her love of angst-filled poetry with Charming and they run off together to live the lives of Bohemian artists.
