Germán López is an esteemed timple player from Gran Canaria, a Spanish island off the coast of Africa. At the age of seven, Germán entered the Conservatory of Music of Las Palmas, where he went on to receive a master’s degree in 2001. Since the age of ten, Germán has been performing publicly, including collaborations with the symphony orchestra of Gran Canaria, festivals such as WOMAD, Circuits INJUVE, Expozaragoza, among others. As a conservatory-trained musician, Germán López blends the ancient traditions of the Canary Islands with uncompromising musical virtuosity. Germán will be accompanied for this unique performance by guitarist Antonio Toledo. (The timple, pronounced, “TIM-play,” is an instrument that looks similar to a ukulele, but has a much more robust sound).
