Focus on developing a painterly approach, simplifying shapes, creating form & painting alla prima. Bob teaches the entire process - balanced composition; under painting to create clean color; good value relationships; mixing colors & color theory; & refining details to complete the work. He uses question & answer sessions during his demonstrations to fully explain techniques & clarify his approach to painting. Individual instruction is an important part of Mr. Rohm’s workshops. Students may work in oils or pastels. Bob says, "Which of the mediums used is not important, the workshop focuses on how to paint, not what medium you are using. Ken’s workshops are relaxed, informative sessions that familiarize students of all levels with the versatility of acrylics & various surfaces upon which they can be applied. Working individually with students & conducting objective critiques as a group, Ken helps students find answers to their painting questions. Susan’s workshop stresses the fundamentals of design & composition, while encouraging a personal approach to color. Students paint from value & color studies. Each day includes a demo/discussion to clarify the day’s assignment & answer questions that arise. Susan shares her approach to painting beginning with shapes; thinking through compositions in black & white; making pencil or ink sketches; and defining a cohesive color relationship within the painting. A generous, spirited teacher Susan says, “It’s all about letting go and enjoying the ride. I act as the safety net!” The workshop consists of 70% studio & 30% outdoor.

 
 



Joyce Washor – Big Art Small Canvas

Traditional oil painting techniques will be scaled down to a small format (3” x 4”) using the alla prima method in this 4-day intense study workshop. There will be class discussion as well as daily demonstrations of color theory, composition, values & brush work. Students will find that harmonious colors naturally evolve when using complementary palettes. The painting principles in Joyce’s book, Big Art Small Canvas will also be covered. Emphasis on individual attention. All levels welcome.

 




Claudine Hellmuth – Beyond the UN-Expected:
Creating 3D Collage

Inspired by Claudine’s book, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected, this 3-day, intensive collage workshop focuses on techniques, color, & composition when used in the assemblage format. Learn a combination of painterly techniques to enhance the surface of your collage artwork & experiment with transfer methods, print making techniques & idea generation tools.

After getting your hands dirty, create a series of 3D box collages, using the depth to bring prominent elements to the foreground. Claudine encourages you to become more comfortable using your own drawing & line work in collages. She offers exercises to practice & tips you can use right away. Even if you’ve never collaged or painted before...you’ll leave this workshop feeling like a pro!

 
 

 

Workshop Refund Policy:

CANCELLATION POLICY: We understand that circumstances arise causing changes in your plans. We sympathize when such situations occur, however, we must adhere to policies as our financial and contractual commitment for each workshop has been finalized. If you need to cancel your reservation, the Art League must be notified by phone or mail.

The policy is as follows:
$100 deposit is required to hold your space in any workshop.
Balance is due no later than 35 days prior to the first day of workshop.
30 Days prior to a workshop: Full refund of tuition, less a $50.00 cancellation fee.
If balance of workshop is not received 29 days prior to the first day of workshop the Art League reserves the right to cancel student's reservation and fill space with student from the wait list. A fees credit, minus $75 cancellation fee will be placed on canceled student's account.
14 Days or less prior to workshop: Full workshop fees forfeited. No refunds or transfers.

DEMOS: Open to the public $15 per demo. (Those registered for a workshop attend at no additional charge)
